THE OCTOMORE 12INSIDER'S GUIDE

A whisky enthusiast's companion for exploring Bruichladdich Distillery's 12 series of Octomore.

A group of 12 whisky aficionados were given exclusive access by the team at Bruichladdich and took a deep dive into the origins, ingredients and complex flavors of the world’s most heavily peated whisky. This compendium is the result. Crafted for your enjoyment, to help enhance your experience with this remarkable spirit.

Introduction:

THE LINEAGE OF EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY HAS REMAINED UNBROKEN

A spirit known by many names. “The Anti-logical,” “The Impossible Equation,” and frequently “The Most Heavily Peated Scotch in the World.” Like most though, you may just simply recognize it as the formidable “Octomore.”

EDITION 12.1:

SETS THE STAGE AS THE "CONTROL" WHISKY OF THE SERIES

This is a dram that insists on your full attention. Delivering huge wafts of Islay spirit, smoke, and sea. It transports your nose, your palate, and your imagination to the Bruichladdich Distillery on shores of Loch Indaal.

EDITION 12.2:

PARTIAL AGING IN COVETED FRENCH SAUTERNES CASKS

For the first time since 4.2 "Comus," this year's Octomore 12.2 will be available via traditional retail outlets. Now that I have your attention, let's talk about the whisky.

EDITION 12.3

THE "OCTOMORE OF OCTOMORES", WITH A PX CASK TWIST

To make the 12.3, Bruichladdich distilled Concerto barley harvested from the Octomore farm in 2014. This year, Pedro Ximenez Solera casks are added to the equation.

SUMMING UP: A COMPARISON OF THE OCTOMORE 12 EXPRESSIONS

All of the releases are 5 years old, non-chill filtered, no color added, peated between 118.1 and 130.8 PPM. Those measured components can give us some information, but the differences and nuances that really stand out are what we can experience on our palates.
